The Story
Mike Marvell started doing standup comedy when he was 36. With a wife and three kids, he had plenty of material to draw from.
When his daughter Lauren was in 3rd grade she approached him about doing standup with her at the school talent show. Mike had been doing clubs and one nighters, but did not have material appropriate for a grade school audience. Lauren's talents of doing different voices and accents made it easy for Mike to write a five minute bit. A star was born!
They had so much fun doing the show it began to expand. Soon the youngest Marvell, Emma Lea, joined in. Adding an unbelievable singing voice and some great comedy, the show took on a whole new dimension.
The show got to the point that musical cues were added and soon 15 year-old Sam joined in to add his backstage talents. He helps out by writing jokes and skits for the show, and prefers to stay out of the spotlight.
Mom (Alyce) helps out with costume changes and settling arguments. She keeps things focused.
The Marvell Family Variety Show combines comedy, music, and audience participation for a show the whole family can enjoy.
